Halloween Costume Of The Year!!!!!!

Can we make this kid the next athletic director at Illinois?

"Seventh-grader Hayden Dodds' Halloween costume: an undercover Illini fan. He's wearing a football jersey with a paper bag over his head."

I suppose we'll see lots of adults wearing paper bags over their heads at Memorial Stadium!!!

New Web Site Wants To Give Zook The Hook!

and no, not talking about throwing a 3-2 curveball!

good stuff!

Fire Ron Zook Bumper Stickers!

On eBay! Gotta make me some Fire Ron Guenther bumper stickers!!!

74-51-3. 1 Outright Big 10 Title & One 4-Way Share of Title

that is the record of the football program under Neale Stoner & John Mackovic. They were the athletic directors before Saint Guenther got the job. So the next time Dan Disch, Ron Zook or the guy from Hudson, Ohio say that you can't have a winning football program at Illinois, remember that.

79-123-2

Hey we kept it close! And now Ron Guenther says Ron Zook will be back in 2010! Will the guy from Hudson, Ohio buy football tickets and donate to the I Fund next year? If not, don't tell your pal from Atlanta!

Sportswriter Calls Out Coach Guenther!

Good to see the media finally throwing darts at Coach Guenther! Herb Gould of the Chicago Sun-Times blames Guenther and his asinine scheduling for part of the football program's woes:

"Illinois' failure to follow the lead of other Big Ten schools and put together a friendly nonconference slate is magnifying the problems. Indiana and Northwestern do it. Penn State and Wisconsin do it. Illinois is not in a position to play one of the most ambitious nonconference schedules in the nation. When Zook didn't have his team ready for the gun-to-your-head Missouri game, it set a tone."

Ron, YOU IDIOT! Follow the lead of your boss and admirer Chancellor Herman and resign!

Another DIA Marketing FAIL

Only 7600 people showed up for the volleyball game/Midnight Madness? Great job, DIA! Hey Coach Guenther, this is a silent protest against your mismanagement of the football program!

Illinois Football Is Back Where It Belongs!

Just like the "golden era" of football under Ron Guenther & Ron Turner, Illinois is back on ESPN's Bottom 10 list! Take a bow, Football Guy!

For those of you who thought before the season that Illinois would be competitive, you are grieving. At what stage of Illini Grief are you?

Maybe next week we can get tickets to sit in the suite of a Purdue dean!

Chicago Media Rips UI Football

Thank you, Rick Morrissey, for doing what the East Central Illinois Media Elite Zealots (ECIMEZs) won't do! Hey Loren Tate, let's hear from you!!

Saturday, October 10, 2009

79-121-2

Great move starting Eddie McGee! I sat in the East Main and I could see Ron Guenther on top of the press box gesticulating at every bad play (there were so many!)

Does anyone other than the guy in Hudson, Ohio think Ron Guenther is awesome?

A University President Who Understands The Value of Winning

The Guenther apologists always point the blame at the UI Adminstration for not being committed to having winning sports teams.

Winning sports teams=more $$$ for the athletic department and more $$$ for the university as a whole. Thankfully, that loser Joe White is leaving. Interim President Stan Ikenberry understands winning, we had solid football & men's basketball programs under his watch. I only hope the new president reads this article.

Another Myth Exposed: Guenther's Budget

All we ever hear from Guenther zealots is how Guenther is a fiscal guru for keeping the DIA's budget in the black. Hey that is easy to do when you do so with a lot of help from UI students!

The students have subsidized the DIA since the late 1990s. In fiscal 2007 the students were coerced into paying the DIA $2,779,770. In fiscal 2008 it was $2,767,073. This is all public info and is all included in the DIA's annual report.

The fact is the student body accounts for nearly 10% of DIA's non-Big Ten revenue. That's pathetic.

Ron Guenther=Al Davis?

Loren Tate says Coach Guenther may have influenced football coach Ron Zook's decision to bench quarterback Juice Williams for Eddie McGee: "He may have gotten strong opinions from athletic director Ron Guenther, coordinator Mike Schultz and other members of the staff."

Um....WHAT???? Look Ron, we know you constantly refer to yourself as the "Football Guy" and as the MVP of the 1967 Illinois football team. Don't you have better things to do than screw up the football program more than it is already, thanks to your asinine scheduling and bad coaching hires? 79-120-2 says that you are not qualified to have anything to do with the football program! 6 home games! Ron, YOU IDIOT!

Orange Out=MASSIVE FAIL

No, I am not talking about the result of the game, nor even Ron Zook's decision to switch starting quarterbacks. The DIA's "Orange Out" was a joke-half the people in the stand were wearing blue! As my good friend Lindsey Willhilte of the Daily Herald notes, the team didn't even wear orange! The team wore blue jerseys and white pants!

79-120-2

Great halftime adjustments, Coach Zook! Hey Coach Guenther! You won't be able to get recruits by playing freaking Garth Brooks music during the game! Only white trash who live in Hudson, Ohio or Atlanta think that music is cool!

Meantime, the DIA's Kent Brown proudly tells us that there's a new parking lot open for single game sales. The very first caller on the podcast asks him if this is the same lot that was free before. After a little tap-dancing, Kent finally admits that yes, all they did was post a guard at the gate of a lot that formerly was free of charge. Way to be customer-friendly during this disaster of a year Kent! If we had lost to ISU too, would you double the rates or what?

This is the seventh straight loss to a team not named Illinois State.

Sad Facts Regarding Guenther Era of Football

79-119-2...thus, Illinois has won 39.5% of its gamesfrom 1992-current

If it's true that the football program brings inapproximately 70% of the revenue for the Illinois athleticdepartment...I'll let you do the math in terms of lost revenue over theyears as a result of empty seats at Memorial Stadium...imagine ifIllinois had a competitive football program...5 bowl games in the 17 years of Illinois' AD's tenure...the last time Illinois had back to back winning seasons was 1989 & 1990 (before the current AD took over thereigns)

The current season is only 3 games old. Losing is one thing; not being competitive, not being disciplined, and not being prepared to play is another.Who has been responsible for the hiring & firing of the head football coaches at Illinois since 1992? Ron Guenther.

Illinois has upgraded its facilities during the current AD's tenure (sokudos for that), however, name one school in the Big10 that also hasn't upgraded their facilities (primarily football and/or basketball) from1992-current...the fact is the other 10 conference schools all have as well...just pointing out that Illinois is not breaking new ground here folks.

Also, there are a total of 65 BCS football schools from the 6 BCSfootball conferences...in terms of winning % Illinois ranks (gulp) 60th out of these 65 BCS schools from 1992-current*

This is the list of the 5 BCS schools with worse winning %'s thanIllinois during this time period (1992-current)
Duke: basketball school with great academics
Indiana: basketball schools (note the 5 national championship banner hanging in their rafters)
Iowa State: who caresBaylor: a school with no business being in its conference
Vanderbilt: a great academic school with NO athletic department and NO AD!

Quite an impressive list! The list of 59 BCS schools with better winning %'s than Illinois from1992-current is too long to list. Again, #60 out of 65...that puts Illinois in the bottom 10% of all BCSfootball schools over the past 17+ years!!!!
