Any Team Can Have A Bad Decade!!!!

But for Illinois football under Ron Guenther, it's the same old thing. Props to our pay Lindsey Willhite of the Daily Herald for this graph. Illinois is 26-54 in Big 10 play in this decade, above only Indiana. Great job Ron!!!! Also, Lindsey calls out the ridiculous scheduling by St. Guenther...15 nonconference games against BCS schools! BOGGLE!!!!!

I'll wait for Loren Tate or some other East Central Illinois Media Elite Zealot (ECIMEZ) to say Lindsey has an agenda. Lindsey is from Champaign!

But the basketball team is good, so who cares about the missed revenue, missed practice time, missed opportunities to show recruits the program, and missed fun of bowl games?

Seriously, who wants to travel to Texas or Florida in winter when they can stay in scenic Champaign?

Speaking of scheduling, anyone notice that the #1 team in the country, Florida, played these non-conference games: Charleston Southern, Troy, and the great Florida International. #2 Alabama didn't do much better.

But there is no need for the UI to do that because we are an elite program.

As crazy as our non-conference schedule is and its incredibly stupid. Playing a non-conference game in December when we could play a cupcake in September ranks right up there, but the bigger reason we should all be seeking Guenther's resignation is his incredible ineptness in hiring Turner and Zook. Tepper is alway vilified and his record is considerably better than both. Guenther would have been gone a long time ago at any BCS school that cares about football. Oh by the way to his few defenders--Who cares that we have a new softball diamond? How about trying to field a football team that is well coached and has a defense that has half a clue?

Looks like Kevin gave up on his math models and is now just posting simple thoughts. Hopefully, he got that refund on his "education."

What "math models?"

I made a simple argument that football - to an athletic department - was 3 times as important as basketball and calculated the results.

I'm a successful businessman with a rational view of our athletic department because of my U of I education. Why would I seek a refund?

Here's a summary of our arguments from the previous post:

Me: A generic AD would have done much better than RG in our top revenue sport, which I estimate as 3 times more important than the sport he's done moderately well in.
You: 383-162
Me: Yes, I understand, but many of those games are against Presbyterian, or playing Iowa in the Big Ten tournament. I mean, if you take a rough 3-to-1 estimate, a practical winning percentage would be about .470
You: NO IT WOULDN'T [blah blah blah]
Me: I'm just using it as support; I know it's not very precise. I'm just saying an average AD would have kept up with Purdue in football.
You: Your mathematical model was horrible! [blah blah blah]
Me: Yeah, I know. I realize it wasn't very precise. There's all sorts of variables that aren't accounted for, including the missed opportunity cost of bowl games, not to mention the lost revenue of a 7th home game.
You: There's no proof a home game makes more money than a road game. Oh, and your math SUCKS.
Me: Home games at successful programs make far more money than going on the road.
You: There's no proof of that! Your mathematical model sucked! Way to not argue anything again! Why not factor the horrible history of the football program?
Me: The Illini were one of the best teams in the Big Ten under Mackovic. They went to 4 straight bowls.
You: But your mathematical model was horrible!

I reiterate my "simple" argument: a generic replacement AD would have done better with the Illinois sports program than Ron Guenther over the last 17 years. You have yet to advance any kind of argument against that.

Awesome Blog! Any idea how to get Guenther's email and give him a piece of our mind?

I proved to you that your calculation of the overall winning percentage of revenue programs under Guenther was absolutely incorrect. Even weighted the way you propose YOU ARE INCORRECT!

After one pathetic attempt at presenting some "facts" you just start make some broad statements without any facts. I'm waiting for you to present something to support your arguments before responding- that seems appropriate.

KEVIN YOU ARE AN IDIOT!

I was looking for some argument in regard to the history of the Illinois FB program not being horrible and you provide me FOUR WHOLE YEARS as proof.

KEVIN, YOU ARE AN IDIOT!

Kevin, you ask me to present facts to refute your arguments. To date you provided one "fact" which I absolutely destroyed and not one more since. I'm still waiting for you to provide facts to SUPPORT YOUR ARGUMENTS!
