Coach Guenther Holds High Expectations for Football!

"My expectation is that we'll be better. I'm expecting more games to be won. I would like this team to be more competitive than last year."

Um, WHAT? So if the team goes 4-8, Zook keeps his job? Or if the team goes 3-9 again, but all 9 losses are close, Zook keeps his job? BOGGLE!

Yes,

His expectations are really high!! Like when he kept Turner after a 1-11 debacle with the only win being over a 1AA team. Or keeping Zook after last season when the program was in complete and total disarray.

There are so many examples of this man's stubborness about his own hires. The Grentz fiasco being another. Now he wants to sink 200 million into a nearly 50 year old building. Please!! His final stake in the heart will probably be to extend Zook for 5 more years before he retires!! Please, Pres. Hogan, retire this man now!!

Haven't you heard the RG apologists already planting the seeds that this "Zook + great OC + great DC = Rose Bowl!" is a 2-year experiment? It's almost enough to root for total embarrassment just to end the Guenther/Zook charade, 'cause really, it's only funny if you're a Purdue or Iowa fan.

Just found this blog!! I love it. RG is the root of the Athletic Dept. problem. Illini must be in a bowl every year. Not 5 in 18. Disgraceful.

"RG is the root of the Athletic Dept. problem."

I will never understand how RG convinced the UI administration to pay him $600k/year in salary.

He is currently the 3rd highest paid AD in the Big 10 (8th in FBS), yet football consistently finishes near the bottom of the conference and the FBS.

Hopefully the next AD understands that non-conference football scheduling is very important. With annual games against NW, Purdue, and Indiana, Illinois should be scheduling 3-4 very winnable games in September, assuring themselves of a decent shot at a bowl game. No more St. Louis or Detroit debacles!
