More Lack of Marketing in Chicago

Hey the Illini Meet n Greet is happening again this year. My complaint-no event in Chicago! There is an event in Lisle, which is good that the DIA is marketing the suburbs, but a better idea is to have an event in the Chicago suburbs and in Chicago itself.

I also note that once again, there is no event in Rockford. I guess we'll see what the DIA really thinks of Chicago when the radio deal is announced this summer. Will Illini sports be on lousy WIND again?

Perhaps there are security concerns having an event in Rockford given where you live.

As for the radio deal, anyone with a brain in their head understands there are no viable alternatives at the moment. Perhaps one of them will explain it to you.

Perhaps you may want to attend other Illini events in Chicago on June 1, June 23, or June 25.

My question is, in the history of this blog is there anyone who has posted supporting any of your positions?

That is, besides the one guy who was posting advertisement for his own website.

"This is a blog dedicated to informing folks about University of Illinois Athletic Director Ron Guenther and how he has screwed up Fighting Illini athletics. This is especially true regarding football during his tenure'"

I attended Illinois before Guenther was AD and was a fan long before that. I can tell you it was a lot more screwed up before he was hired. You must have missed the fact that RG did not hire Blackman or Moeller or Tepper.

1) Saint Guenther extended Tepper's contract.

2) You are dead wrong on the radio deal. You must be a friend of Jim Turpin's. Is he still whining about how the Score made fun of him?

"You are dead wrong on the radio deal."

Please explain what the viable alternatives are then. Let me help you by noting that WGN, WSCR, WBBM, WLS and WMVP are not viable alternatives at the moment.

Penny for your thoughts.

You are completely wrong that WMVP and WLS and WSCR are not viable alternatives.

WLS carries ND football and basketball.

WSCR carries NIU and White Sox, maybe DePaul still.

WMVP carries the Bulls.

Unless any of the above change or they agree the Illini broadcasts will not be preempted by any other teams, they can't be considered viable options.

Shenanigans. When your Patron Saint Guenther cut the original deal with WSCR, there was preemption. Now, the pregame/postgame gets preempted on WIND for the Michael Savage show.

So now the games are not preempted, but you want to go back to a station where they would be? I'm sure that makes sense to you in some warped way. I've heard the pre and post game shows and missing them is a positive IMHO.

To the original point, please explain why WMVP, WSCR and WLS are viable alternatives, since you haven't yet.

they're viable because their signal doesn't fade at night, and WLS is viable because ND football is on WMVP.

The signal strength has nothing to do with viability. If they can't get on a station, it doesn't matter how strong or weak the signal is.

Hey Fire Ron Guenther! Dan Roan (you know who he is?) said WIND is a good option for Illinois, and definitely much better than WSCR, for the exact same reasons someone already mentioned -- mainly preemption! Now Dan Roan does have some expertise in the area of sports and broadcasting. Why in the world should anyone listen to you over Dan Roan?

When did Dan Roan say this? And if he did, the fact that he used to work in Champaign (East Central Illinois) says it all.

"Why in the world should anyone listen to you over Dan Roan?"

Because FRG has a blog and Dan Roan doesn't, that's why!! Just because Dan has worked in the broadcasting business for over thirty years doesn't mean he understands it better than FRG.

"When did Dan Roan say this? And if he did, the fact that he used to work in Champaign (East Central Illinois) says it all."

So he can't figure out whether to say he never said it or dismiss it just in case he did. Someday FRG will explain why having worked in C-U "says it all".

Hey you Guenther lovers: Are you aware that NIU pays WSCR $175K for its radio rights, which include pregame, postgame and weekly coaches' shows?

In contrast, UI pays WIND $200K for a weaker signal and no pregame or postgame. And WIND is not a sports talk station.

I can't wait for you clowns to say "it's not preempted!" and "WIND doesn't make fun of UI!"

Dan Roan said WIND is a better option than WSCR on 5/13.

And he is an ISU alum, not a U of I alum, so his loyalties are in Normal, not Champaign-Urbana. In fact, he played basketball there for one season. That's one more than you did.

What exactly are your credentials? I dare you to be specific!

Who gives a crap about the pre/post and coaches' shows? Unless you are a shut-in, who would listen to that drivel? The coaches shows are available on line if you want to hear them.

Preemption is a big deal if you want to hear real time results of a game. I don't know whey you feel hearing a game on delay is a benefit. As for "making fun" of UI, who cares? How does that impact anything other than a few fans' egos?

yeah who wants the extra exposure anyway! It's obvious that being on WIND is a terrible idea along with most of what Guenter comes up with.
