STOP THE PRESSES! Guenther talks to the media!

Coach Guenther had a sitdown with the media! This shows just how insulated this guy has become. He's afraid of journalists not located in East Central Illinois asking him the tough questions. Meantime, if you want to read his whitewash of the great Bruce Weber, or what he plans to do about Assembly Hall, read it here. Hey Ron, if you had started a fundraising drive for a new arena five years ago (you know, back when basketball was hot and football stunk) we'd already have a new arena. Good luck getting the money for renovations or a new arena, given the current economy and how bad the basketball team is on & off the court!

Sounds great to the simple minded, the problem is that it is difficult to raise money for a project when it hasn't been determined what you are raising money for regardless whether it was five years ago or today. People are more inclined to give money to build new versus renovate, which is a determination almost entirely out of Guenther's hands, although with Emil Jones retiring, it might get a little easier.

The basketball arena issue goes way beyond the issue of funding.

Could it be that Memorial Stadium was a higher priority due to it's being older and in greater need of renovation?

Soon the basketball team will be back on top and Guenther will get the renovation accomplished- what will you piss and moan about then?

You must live in Pesotum if you think basketball is going to be good again any time soon. Heck, if Calvin Brock doesn't play this year, will Illinois even beat Indiana?

Wherever Pesotum is, it must be a better place than Sycamore - though Sycamore has recently gotten better.
