Is The End Near For Saint Guenther?

Rumors flying on various internet sites that Coach Guenther's Reign of Error is about to end. Remember, his contract expires June 30th. Oh please, send this loser into retirement!

I agree 100% with your blog and now would like to hear your thoughts on replacements for:

Guenther
Webber
Zook

My opinions:

Fire Webber and make Brad Stevens an offer he cannot refuse. Mark Few would be solid but not sure he has the recruiting roots in the midwest.

Fire Zook and go after Mark Farley at Northern Iowa maybe? I would have said Jerry Kill but in typical Illinois fashion they let another Big 10 school scoop up a solid coach with Illinois ties. (see Ohio State and Thad Matta).

Not sure I have any ideas to replace Guenther as I am not up on hot AD's. I know Missouri State has a good sports program as does SIU. Again, not sure how they find a new AD but maybe you have some thoughts.

replace Weber with Brad Stevens, sure. my first call would be to Jamie Dixon, offer him big bucks.

Mark Farley, good name. I agree with Jerry Kill. hell if Guenther had fired Zook after 2009, we coulda had Al Golden...

as for a new AD? I am the man!

How could you not comment on zook getting a 250k raise for being 7-6? That rewards mediocracy

At this point Betty White could do a better job as AD than Guenther, for that matter even the dead Golden Girls could.......

As I have lived in Texas since 1999 I have experienced what true fans are, what winning feels like and what happens when mediocrity occurs. I have railed for years about Illinois sports and the utter lack of concern Illinois fans have when they lose. I am a Longhorns fan now and cannot imagine what would happen if the UT football coach had Zooks record. I think he would get tarred and feathered and hung from the tower.

UT basketball is not winning championships but we are still competitive and expect to win every year.

Illinois fans have always seemed OK with mediocrity. I think they go home after a game or turn off the TV and just "forget about it". It is not a big deal for them, they do not live and breathe U of I sports. Now, maybe that is not a bad thing, after all we have all known or see what over crazy fans are like but in the end, if you are going to pay a coach as much as they pay Zook and Webber then I think you should expect AND DEMAND better results.

Illinois fans need to wake up and get excited. Demand wins, demand results and when you don't get them demand change.
