The Worst Part of Today's Loss?

I can't choose...was it McCamey and Weber going at it on the bench? The continued inability to block out, leading to numerous offensive rebounds for Wisconsin? Barring winning the Big 10 tournament and winning a game in the NCAA tournament, this will be the first time since 1980 that Illinois has gone four straight years without winning a NCAA tournament game.

Worst part for me: not that Illinois is going to the NIT, it's that Illinois can't even host a first-round NIT game! Assembly Hall is booked for Cirque du Soleil!

Great job Ron Guenther and Bruce Weber! You have killed the men's basketball program!

Can't agree with you more. I don't understand how the program has got to this point. I like to refer to Illini sports as MWA. Medocrity Without Accountability.

Weber got a healthy raise after being upset in the first round of the NCAA tournament last year. I wonder how Guenther rewards NIT appearances?

The program got to this point because our coach brought in midlevel recruits for six years. Three of the six Player of the Year finalists are from Chicagoland -- Collins, Scheyer and Turner. As everyone knows, none came to U of I.

Hey, the Illini got lucky in 2007 when the selection committee forgot to put Syracuse in the tournament and gave Illinois a 12 seed. Maybe it'll happen again this year?

If it does, I bet there'll be a 30% raise in order for "one of the best coaches in the conference."

Ryan,

I like your MWA acronym. My only thoughts are that our football program hasnt even reached mediocrity during most of the Guenther reign. It looks like we are stuck with him, Zook and Weber for the forseeable future. With the economy of the state being such a mess, buying out contracts would be frowned upon by our leaders as "politically incorrect." What a shame that the a great university puts such inept products on the field and the court!!

I just found this blog i totally agree with you guys it is almost like ron and bruce became good friends while bruce was winning with self's teams. then he became to chummy while everyone was excited about our rose bowl appearance and now he cannot fire and hire the talent this school requires to grow athletically. He is the logjam at the top and we need to hire an outsider in order to make the changes this school needs.
