Loren Tate-Unoffical Mouthpiece for Ron Guenther on Assembly Hall
Leave it to Loren Tate to write this piece of fishwrap on Assembly Hall renovations.
1) They're going to do another fundraising campaign in a recession?
2) They're going to do another fundraising campaign with football going down the drain-AGAIN!
3) All this money they supposedly have in reserve....why not spend some of it for a 7th home game for football?
4) Good luck trying to get a corporate sponsor in this economy.

So what you're saying is that when Ron Guenther pulls off the remodeling of the Assembly Hall despite all the obstacles....he will be the best AD in the country.
"3) All this money they supposedly have in reserve....why not spend some of it for a 7th home game for football?"
Because you continually complain about how they should have already remodeled the AH.
Or maybe it's because the article states they are keeping operating monies, which would be used for a seventh home game, seperate from the remodelling fund.
Or maybe it's a moot point because Guenther has already talked about giving the fans a seventh home game.
One thing for sure, you're the biggest whiny beotch on the planet. You complain when the AD doesn't remodel the AH and now you complain when the AD says he will. Why don't you wait and complain if the AD doesn't get it done?
read the article closely-there is no guarantee that AH gets remodeled. They have to do the fundraising first, which, as FRG notes, will be tough in the current economy.
Bottom line is that if RG had started raising money for a new arena or to renovate AH back in the earlier part of the decade (when basketball was hot and football sucked) we'd already have a new arena or a remodeled AH.
"Let's see an 80 year old crumbling read the article closely-there is no guarantee that AH gets remodeled. They have to do the fundraising first, which, as FRG notes, will be tough in the current economy."
BLAME GUENTHER FOR NOT PREDICTING THE MORTGAGE CRISIS!!!!!!
Okay FRG, I suppose asking you to come up with entire season's schedule was way beyond your capabilities. So let's simple it down for you: Who would you have scheduled for the 7th home game, and when would it have been played?

Let's see, remodel a crumbling, outdated 80 year old Memorial Stadium or a simply outdated 40 year old Assembly Hall?
This isn't really that difficult, is it?
Where is all that money that RG made from selling out to Western Michigan for Guenther's Folly last year? Maybe he bought some women's basketball tickets and gave them to NEOhioIllini.
"Where is all that money that RG made from selling out to Western Michigan for Guenther's Folly last year?"
A raise to the men's BB HC, a raise to the men's BB AC who had another job offer, a raise to the men's FB DC who had another job offer, keep the DIA debt free, etc.? Sounds highly probable that the money was wisely spent.
A raise for the DC (remember, we have two DCs, which means we have zero) who is nothing but a glorified high school coach? The defense that let a freshman QB from Illinois State pass for over 300 yards? UI is ranked what, number 116 in pass defense? Yeah, that is money well spent!!
"I've really enjoyed my 15 years here at Illinois," ITCH JONES said. "I was hired here when John Mackovic was the director of athletics, but I'VE BEEN FORTUNATE TO WORK UNDER RON GUENTHER FOR MOST OF MY TIME HERE, WHO IS ONE OF THE BEST IN THE BUSINESS. The administration here has always supported our program and we really appreciate the fan support throughout the community and university."
"I would like to thank RON GUENTHER and the entire athletic department for giving me the great opportunity to fulfill my dream of leading the Fighting Illini," MARK JOHNSON said. "I COULDN'T HAVE ASKED FOR A BETTER ATHLETIC DIRECTOR THAN RON. I want to thank him for how he treated my program and me over my 17 years here. I really enjoyed the relationships with my athletes and staff, and I think this program is in great shape for the future."
"Being at the University of Illinois for the past 28 years has meant so much to me," PAULA SMITH said. "I want to thank the past and present administrations, fellow coaches, DIA support staff, academic services, and past and present student-athletes, especially all of the women golfers who have allowed me to play a role in their lives. RON GUENTHER WILL CONTINUE TO PROVIDE GREAT LEADERSHIP FOR THE PROGRAM and I will miss being on his team."
What about all the cash saved from not doing fireworks at Memorial Staudium??? Plus I think we saved a few bucks during the ISU game by only playing "I gotta feeling!" during every break in the game. Best 99 cents ever spent on iTunes! Way to stretch that buck!

"CHAMPAIGN Given that Illinois' football revenue has fallen more than $1 million the last four years, you would think the school's athletic department would be hurting financially.
On the contrary, Illinois has a balanced budget and is far along in a building fund that is approaching $30 million. It also has added two women's sports, soccer and softball, to move close to complying with the Title IX federal mandate to provide equal opportunities for athletes of both sexes.
That's a big improvement over the $1.7 million deficit Ron Guenther inherited when he became Illinois' athletic director in 1992.."
Yeah, which DC got a raise? Amazing that RG promoted a linebackers coach and secondary coach for co-DC's and the only decent part of that D is the line.
the DC that got the raise was Dan Disch, former high school coach.
remember, when you have 2 defensive coordinators, you don't have any!!

Dan Disch ace recruiter.
Hey FRG! We're still waiting for your version of the schedule.

NOBODY cares about the wrestling, badminton or women's volleyball program. The only thing alumni care about are the two major college sports, men's basketball and football. Even if these minor sports are rampantly successful, a school's revenue still suffers if the major two sports are substandard.
Also, I argue the basic premise of using these quotes about Guenther to bolster his case as a competent AD. If you are asked to comment on the public record about your boss, and/or the man who hired you, who gave you your shot, what the fuck are you going to say about him?? Throw him under the bus? No one would do that in any line of work. These are such vanilla, generic statements that it's hard to differentiate Guenther from any other AD in the country. It's absurd to think a measure of an AD are cliched, cookie-cutter statements like "I couldn't have asked for a better Athletic Director." That's what you're arguing?
I'm as big of an Illini fan as they come, but we need a new AD people.

Read the quotes again, half of these coaches were not hired by Guenther. All of them are leaving and there is no reward for saying the right thing.
So we should listen to the one trick pony, Detlef, instead? Or to someone like you who admittedly doesn't care about the atheltic programs that Guenther is required to manage?
That's what you are arguing?

Since no cares....I obviously must have gotten lost on my way to Memorial Stadium when I ended up at Huff Hall for the VB match.
"Yeah, which DC got a raise? Amazing that RG promoted a linebackers coach and secondary coach for co-DC's and the only decent part of that D is the line."
Amazing that you don't know who does the promoting on the football staff.
Dude, going to Huff Hall to watch a volleyball game makes you a loser.
"Dude, going to Huff Hall to watch a volleyball game makes you a loser"
Watching tall, long legged women in very short, tight shorts makes me a loser?
Well now you're just a creep. Go to a bar if you want to meet a hot girl, keep your binoculars at home loser.

I'm alumni and I care about all of these sports. Just one of your incorrect points in this reply.
Making revenue is not the goal of the DIA, it's essentially a nonprofit organization. Winning teams, graduating student athletes, following NCAA rules, etc. are the goals.
We have one unsuccessful major program not two.

Read carefully, half these coaches were not hired by Guenther. Most of them were retiring, they are "no lnoger in the business." When they made these statements there was no benefit to them to make this stuff up.
Also, I respect their opinion far more than your's as they are intimately involved in working with the AD.
"I'm as big of an Illini fan as they come..."
This is contradicted by your first sentence. Your reply indicates the inability to logically think through an argument.
"but we need a new AD people"
No we need less "fans" like you.
"Well now you're just a creep. Go to a bar if you want to meet a hot girl, keep your binoculars at home loser."
j/k. Please try harder to come up with some legitimate posts in regard to the subject at hand.
"I'm as big of an Illini fan as they come, but we need a new AD people."
News for you and FRG...you will ge t a new AD when Guenther decides to leave.
