Non-Revenue Sports Mediocrity

Did any Illinois team win a Big 10 title this year? I think the only team that won a title last year was women's track, and even that was a tie for the title.

Is Bruce Weber Finally Learning How to Talk to the Media?

Rodney Alexander is leaving the men'sbasketball team (another Juco transfer that didn't pan out). Unlike his comments about Brian Carlwell that threw him under the bus, Bruce kept his comments neutral this time.

"In our individual meetings at the conclusion of the season, Rodney
indicated that he was unsure about his future at Illinois," Weber said. "After
taking some time and discussing his situation further, we have mutually agreed
that it is in his best interest to pursue an opportunity at another institution.
We thank him for his effort here and wish him the best with his remaining
education and basketball career."

Hey it's progress!

New PA Guy for Football

He is some dude named Ken Johnson who already does baseball.

I will miss Jim Sheppard and his "first and 10 for the Illini!" rallying cry. He actually made me laugh many times during the bad days of Illinois football (lots of them under the Guenther regime) when Illinois was getting killed and somehow the offense got a first down against the opposition's 3d string defense.

Shame on the DIA and Coach Guenther for pushing Jim out the door!

So If Assembly Hall Renovation Ever Happens

Can we expect a reduced seating capacity like Memorial Stadium did after its renovation finishes? Better yet, cost overruns like at Purdue?

Hey Ed Hightower is on WDWS tomorrow? Maybe someone can ask him why Big 10 officiating generally sucks, and why Bill LeMonnier still does football games.

Congratulations to Bill Self & Kansas

on its NCAA Men's Basketball championship. I wonder if Coach Guenther is still mad at Self for leaving. Remember, loyalty is more important than recruiting!

So Bill Self & Kansas are in the FInal 4

Meantime, Coach Guenther's "loyal" hire Bruce Weber and Illinois didn't even make the NCAA tournament. Remember when Ron got mad when Self left? So again, using his "reflexive" hiring policy, he hired a guy who had the quality that the predecessor lacked...without thinking about recruiting. Sort of like when he replaced Lou Tepper with Ron Turner.

Speaking of loyalty, any chance Ron gives back his pay raise to the university? And further, already Bruce Weber is being mentioned as a candidate for the Marquette job....it's all about LOYALTY, Coach Guenther!
