Shawn Wax Is Leaving!!!

Shawn Wax, Senior Associate Athletic Director, is leaving his position, effective April 15th. We're not sure what this means in terms of Saint Guenther staying (heaven forbid!) or finally leaving (yes!) but this is an intriguing development. We have always enjoyed talking with Shawn and his wife, Fighting Illini softball coach Terri Sullivan. One of our greatest memories of Shawn is when he caught that touchdown at Southern California in 1989 to clinch a great comeback win!

Also, there were always rumors about Shawn Wax succeeding Coach Guenther as AD. So much for those rumors.....

Shawn, we wish you the best of luck! Don't move to Hudson, Ohio!!!

No apologies from Ron Guenther for the dismal football season (as usual) or the underachieving men's basketball season (now the norm under our mid-major head coach).

Women's Basketball Season Ends in NIT Loss at Illinois State

We should all be happy that the men's season at least ended at home with a NIT loss. That is a step up!

So Who Still Thinks Illinois Deserved a NCAA Bid?

What a pathetic effort...at home no less! Remember when Assembly Hall was one of the toughest places for a team to get a road win? Not anymore, under our mid-major head coach! Illinois lost 4 of its last 5 home games this season!

Our mid-major head coach has too many soft players and non-contributors on the roster. Unlike the NBA, he can't blame the general manager! He recruited these players, and, well, let's not go over how many good high school players he failed to get from Illinois.

This game perfectly summarized the basketball season. Poor offense, bad defense, allowing too many offensive rebounds, complete inability to get to the free throw line (ESPN showed a stat that Illinois is like #320 in free throws attempted) and players and coaches whining about calls, hence the photo. This motion offense isn't designed to get players to make cuts, it's all about jump shots. Terrible.

Thankfully, this turd of a season is over. A total failure. There was no excuse to not make the NCAA this season. Illinois has now failed to make the NCAA three of the past four seasons. That is totally inexcusable and totally the fault of Bruce All Mid-Major.

Will our ace athletic director give Weber another contract extension and pay raise? Hey, spring football practice starts soon! Is that a good thing?

Let's Compare Lou Henson's Last 4 Seasons to BAMM's

BAMM=Bruce All Mid-Major. Coach Guenther nudged Lou Henson in 1996 because he thought the program had gotten stale. But what about now, brown cow?

Lou Henson's last four seasons: NCAA 2nd round, NCAA 1st round, NCAA 1st round, NIT.

BAMM's last four seasons: NCAA 1st round, LOSING SEASON, NCAA 1st round, NIT.

So if Coach Guenther is going to be "consistently consistent" in how he treats head coaches, he needs to sack BAMM. Oh wait, he hired BAMM! He didn't hire Lou Henson! We all know how "loyal" Coach Guenther is to coaches he hired! Look how long Ron Turner kept his job? Heck, why is Ron Zook still here?

God bless Lou Henson. A competent coach and not a mid major dope in over his head.

You Can't Spell Fighting Illini Without "N I T"!!!!

Bruce Weber officially stinks. No NCAA tournament wins since 2006. Zero wins in NCAA with his own recruits. Past four seasons=12 seed, lost in first round; LOSING RECORD; 5 seed, lost in first round to a midmajor; NIT.

This is the first time since 1980 that Illinois has gone 4 straight years without winning an NCAA tournament game. Mid major coach!

The Worst Part of Today's Loss?

I can't choose...was it McCamey and Weber going at it on the bench? The continued inability to block out, leading to numerous offensive rebounds for Wisconsin? Barring winning the Big 10 tournament and winning a game in the NCAA tournament, this will be the first time since 1980 that Illinois has gone four straight years without winning a NCAA tournament game.

Worst part for me: not that Illinois is going to the NIT, it's that Illinois can't even host a first-round NIT game! Assembly Hall is booked for Cirque du Soleil!

Great job Ron Guenther and Bruce Weber! You have killed the men's basketball program!

No Spring Football Practice in Chicagoland

This is one thing that Ron Zook and the DIA has done right: have a spring practice in Chicagoland. Helps for marketing the state's biggest market, gives fans a chance to see the team. No such luck this year. Coach Guenther is gonna save some money with this move!
